Good men give a damn.  Show your community just how manly you can be by joining other local men who want to make a measurable, positive impact right here in Lethbridge.

So we get 100 (or more) manly men (guys, dudes, bros, gentlemen, whatever you prefer) together, each with a $100 cheque in their pocket to give to 1 local charity that we all vote on that night. BAM! $10,000 in real money to a charity in our own backyard. We do it 4 times a year for a 1 hour meeting.

How do you get involved? It's simple. You join us right here on this website and make a commitment to donating $100 4 times in that year. When you sign up, you nominate a charity. Then you stand by your commitment shoulder to shoulder with other local men... attend the meetings and bring your cheque!

How We Work

The Basics

100 MEN WHO GIVE A DAMN LETHBRIDGE IS A GROUP OF MEN WHO WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THEIR COMMUNITY BUT HAVE LIMITED TIME. WE ARE NOT A CHARITY, WE'RE A FUNDRAISING NON-ORGANIZATION, THAT FACILITATES THE GIVING PROCESS.

100+ men are asked to give $100 directly to one of three nominated charities, four times per year. Each quarter members attend a one-hour meeting at which three charities present their causes for 5 minutes each. At the end of the brief presentations, members vote to determine by majority which charity will be the recipient of the $10,000+.

We're are a non-organization. We are not registered; we have no directors, officers or treasurer; we have no bank account because we don't collect, spend or donate anything - it’s our members who make the donations. The group and its events are run on a budget of zero by a core team of big-hearted volunteers and with the assistance of some very generous sponsors, who coincidentally also give a damn.

You don't have to give a lot, alone.  You just have to give a little, together.  It's a simple concept that enables us to make a positive impact in our community, together as a group of like-minded men.  

How It Works

Charities are nominated by the membership. There are eligibility requirements. 3 charities are randomly chosen by blind draw from our list of member-nominated charities. Representatives from the 3 selected charities will be asked to make a five-minute presentation to the group about that charities initiative and why they are deserving of the group's vote. After the presentations, a ballot is held and the charity with the most votes by simple majority will be the recipient. All members must then write out their cheque to the charity with the most votes – no exceptions. The selected organization will receive a group donation of $10,000 or more. All the cheques are collected and given to the chosen charity that evening.

Guidelines

Members who did not vote for the selected organization must make their donation to the charity voted on by the majority of those in attendance. Members will receive a tax receipt directly from the organization.  There is no proxy voting, but members who cannot attend must ensure their blank cheque (in a sealed envelope) reaches a ‘buddy’ that is attending or the meeting organizers before the meeting starts. Organizations under consideration must serve Lethbridge and its surrounding Area and provide individual tax receipts directly to contributing members. The recipient charity is not eligible to be nominated/presented for 2 (two) years. The other two charities may be nominated/presented again after 6 (six) months.  The exception is a specific program within a large organization (for example a specific department or program within a hospital), which may be considered again for a different program or department at any time. Ties will be decided by a draw. The selected organization must agree not to give out member information to any third parties except for tax purposes. Each meeting will include a five minute update on how the funds donated at the previous meeting were used by the successful organization. Meetings are diligently conducted in one hour or less (with available time before and after the meeting for networking prior if you want).

FAQs
How does it all work?
100 Men Who Give A Damn is made up of at least 100 registered members who are committed to seeing their charitable efforts have a direct and immediate local impact. Every member who registers is committed to donating $400 a year to charities voted on by our membership. When each man registers, he nominates one not-for-profit or charity group to be in the running to receive a donation. One week before each meeting, 3 charities will be drawn at random and will be contacted to prepare a short (5 minute) presentation on the night of the meeting. From those charities, everyone present at the meeting will then vote for a winner and $100 cheques are written out and donated on the spot to the charity receiving the most votes!

How do I become a member of 100 Men Who Give A Damn Lethbridge?

Do I have to make a commitment?
Yes, as a member you commit to making four quarterly donations of $100 to the charity chosen by the majority. You can withdraw at anytime by contacting us. But you cannot join and then simply NOT participate.
How many meetings am I required to attend?
In Lethbridge we require a commitment at registration to attend each quarterly meeting. If you cannot attend a meeting, you will still be expected to honour your commitment by sending your cheque with a friend, or dropping it off.
Can I send my cheque directly to the charity myself?
Sorry, no. Because the goal of 100 Men Who Give A Damn Lethbridge is to make one BIG donation on behalf of the whole group, the answer has to be “no”. To make a BIG impact, we want to give $10,000+ dollars at the end of our meeting. The only way to do that is to make each member’s donation part of the larger donation. This is the power of being a member.
 We also need to be able to track your donations so that you get credit for the donation and remain in good standing. Only members in good standing can nominate, attend, and vote.
What if I cannot attend a meeting?
If a member cannot attend a quarterly meeting, he should send his regrets to 100menlethbridge@gmail.com, and must do one of the following before the meeting:
      1. Send in a blank, signed cheque with a trusted fellow member who will be attending.
      2. Place your blank $100 cheque in a sealed envelope marked “100Men” and drop it off at our convenient (secure) drop-box located at Dominion Lending           Centers:102-2527 Fairway Road South, Lethbridge Alberta, T1K 5V4.
How long do the meetings last?
The meeting itself is from 7pm - 8pm. We encourage you to come at 6pm (or earlier for a bite to eat) for drinks, networking and to get to know the other super manly men you will be hanging with. We will have the venue available 1 hour before and 1 hour after but you are only required to attend for the 1 hour of the meeting.
Is membership limited to 100 men?
No, that would not be fair to the charities, would it? If we can make a BIG impact with 100 men, why not invite a friend and make an even BIGGER impact? Remember, we're doing this for the charities and our community, not just for us.
How do the charities get picked? Which charities are eligible?
When each member signs up, he nominates one registered charity or not-for-profit group with his registration form. (Please read the criteria on the “charities” page before nominating.) Once you have nominated a charity, you may not nominate again until the next year- this includes those whose charity gets picked for donation. Any registered not-for-profit group or charity that has existed for over 1 year, and serves Lethbridge or the surrounding area is eligible for nomination.
Are my donations tax deductible?
Yes! Tax receipts will be written out by the awarded charity, NOT by 100 Men Lethbridge. This is what your mailing address information will be used for. Expect to receive your receipt of donation within a month of each meeting.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes, please do. We only ask that your friend donates a $100 cheque along with everyone else on the night that he attends. If your friend would like to be a member we will have registration forms available at the meeting; without being a registered and committed member though, friends are unable to vote for the charity at the meeting.
Does any of my donation go to admin costs of 100 Men Who Give A Damn Lethbridge?
Absolutely not! 100 Men Who Give A Damn Lethbridge  is organized and operated entirely by volunteers. Our meeting space has been graciously donated by host venues in the area. 100% of the money raised at our meetings goes directly to the selected organization.
What do you do with my personal information?
100 Men Who Give A Damn Lethbridge collects your personal information (including name, email address, phone number) strictly for the purpose of keeping in contact with our members.
100 Men Who Give A Damn Lethbridge will not sell, give or otherwise share your personal information with any third party without your express consent, unless required to do so by law. We may occasionally recognize our members via social media and other media. If a member wants to remain anonymous they must let us know at the time of joining.
We will never rent out, sell or give away your personal information. Ever.

Charities

It's About Our Community

Every three months, we will come together to create animpact within the community, and we do this through the selection of a local charity. Along with our donation, we also promote awareness for these charities.

Eligibility Criteria

Only members of 100 Men Who Give A Damn Lethbridge are eligible to nominate a charity/organization. There is no proxy voting.

In order to be considered to present at a meeting, the charity must be:

  • Based in, and serving the Lethrbidge Area. 
  • A registered charitable organization able to provide charitable tax receipts for donations. Please check the CRA website to verify. 
  • Previously established for at least one year (no start-ups).

In addition:

  • No national or international charities will be considered, as the aim is to keep our donations right here in the Lethbridge Area. Organizations with a national link may be nominated, however, provided the request is for a project to be delivered in Lethbridge Area. The funds must stay in the area. 
  • Any charity or not-for-profit group must be a registered group, and willing to provide tax receipts to all members who donate. 
  • The nominated charities must agree in advance of the meeting to send tax receipts directly to each of the donating members. 
  • Members of 100 Men Who Give A Damn Lethbridge will vote by secret ballot to select one of the three nominated charities to receive all the donations that evening. 
  • The organization with the greatest number of votes will be the recipient of the total funds donated and will be ineligible to receive funds from 100 Men Who Give A Damn Lethbridge for two (2) years. 
  • The two charities not selected may be nominated again after the next quarterly meeting (6 months). 
  • Any organization chosen to present at a meeting will be contacted the week prior in order to prepare. We ask that you send 2-3 representatives of the organization, with one person as the main speaker. The following aspects are suggested for your presentation: who are you, what organization do you represent, what made you join this organization, if awarded this donation what impact do you plan on making in our community? 
  • A request will be made of the recipient charity to present an update on their use of the donation at the next meeting of 100 Men Who Give A Damn Lethbridge.

Note: 100 Men Who Give A Damn Lethbridge reserves the right to amend these eligibility criteria when appropriate, without consultation with the nominated charities.
